Details: La Perigourdine is a spacious country house with private swimming pool. The property has been refurbished to provide stylish and very well equipped accommodation for 5/6 people. Situated in the Dordogne-Perigord region, one of the gastronomic treasures of France. The region is famous for black truffles, walnuts, mushrooms, fois gras, confit de canard and some excellent wines. See vestiges of history from prehistoric caves, Gallo-Roman remains, medieval castles and charming towns and villages. Or just simply relax at the poolside and leave behind the stresses of work and modern life.
The house stands in secure and private grounds of around 3 acres. The swimming pool (new Sept 2005) has been positioned at the front of the house to take advantage of maximum sunlight and has a terraced area around it with ample hardwood furniture. The rest of the front and side gardens are mainly lawn with fruit trees, shrubs and flowers. The rear of the property has another terraced area with a large hardwood dining table and seating for 6 and a BBQ area. Just beyond the rear terrace is the woodland which has some pathways for exploration and some seating for those of us that like some shade from the powerful summer sunshine.
This traditional styled “Perigourdine” country house has been fully modernised to provide spacious living areas with all modern comforts. The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The property has beamed ceilings throughout. The large lounge/diner (40sqm) has TV, DVD , Video, music centre and quality furnishing. Patio doors link the lounge with the rear terrace and BBQ area and has lovely views of the woodland beyond.
The kitchen has been re-fitted to keep the traditional French look and give a luxurious modern kitchen with all the facilities including dishwasher ect. There is a separate laundry room with auto washer. The ground floor luxury bathroom has a large two-seater bath and twin hand wash basins. The ground floor bedroom has a double bed and traditional French furniture with patio doors leading to the rear terrace. Two further bedrooms (one double & one twin beds) are on the first floor. A spacious shower room with vanity unit and wc complete the first floor.
The house is well placed for local activities such as horse riding, golf, canoeing, bird watching, wine tasting, walking cycling tennis and fishing. The magical city of Perigueux is only 12km away and has many attractions such as Gallo-Roman remains at Vesunna, the cathedral of St Front. The old part of the city has narrow cobbled streets with many boutiques and gift shops. The narrow streets open up onto squares with open-air restaurants and its not unusual to watch street performers while you dine. The modern part of the city has enough shops to satisfy most of the shopperholics amongst us. It also has an 18 hole golf course.
The town of Brantome is around 14km from the house and has a Benedictine abbey and numerous prehistoric caves to visit plus some good value restaurants and riverside cafes. A 45-50 minute drive south takes you to the Bergerac wine region which has some excellent wines. This area links on the vineyards of St Emillion and Bordeaux which is of course world famous for its wines. South east of the house lies Sarlat and the caves of Lascaux and Les Eyzies which are all worth a visit
Your Hosts; David & Eileen Hale have been operating holiday homes in the area for six years. They have a discreet presence in a separate apartment and will be tending to the pool and gardens during your visit. They are available for help and advice if needed but are appreciative of the fact that guests like their privacy, above all they are there to ensure you have an excellent holiday.
