We are just 5 km from Junction 59 of the A20 motorway, 550 miles from Calais. For those of you familiar with the area, the route has vastly improved since the opening of the Cahors section of the A20 during 2003. The closest airport is Toulouse (around 45 minutes) being served by a number of the budget airlines and of course, most of the major European ones. Many of the international car hire companies have an office at the airport and we would be happy to obtain quotations on your behalf. Catusse-Haut is in a rural location and therefore a car is essential. The nearest neighbour is around 400 yards away, across a field, so your privacy is ensured. The 10m x 5m pool is open from May to September and has wonderful panoramic views. We have a badminton net and racquets may be borrowed or try your hand at petanque on our boule court boules provided. We have 360 degree views over a patchwork of fertile fields, vines and fruit trees fantastic for artists. The house is well placed for local activities such as horse riding, golf, canoeing, bird watching, wine tasting, walking cycling tennis and fishing. The magical city of Perigueux is only 12km away and has many attractions such as Gallo-Roman remains at Vesunna, the cathedral of St Front. The old part of the city has narrow cobbled streets with many boutiques and gift shops. The narrow streets open up onto squares with open-air restaurants and its not unusual to watch street performers while you dine. The modern part of the city has enough shops to satisfy most of the shopperholics amongst us. It also has an 18 hole golf course. The town of Brantome is around 14km from the house and has a Benedictine abbey and numerous prehistoric caves to visit plus some good value restaurants and riverside cafes. A 45-50 minute drive south takes you to the Bergerac wine region which has some excellent wines. This area links on the vineyards of St Emillion and Bordeaux which is of course world famous for its wines. South east of the house lies Sarlat and the caves of Lascaux and Les Eyzies which are all worth a visit Your Hosts; David & Eileen Hale have been operating holiday homes in the area for six years. Five award winning stone cottages on our non-working farm, in a glorious location over looking dales and rolling countryside in the heart of the White Peak area of the Peak District. Three sleep four persons, one, sleeping three, is all on the ground floor and is therefore particularly suited for the less agile, the other is a spacious cottage (indeed as large as the four person cottages) sleeping two persons and boasts a galleried bedroom overlooking a large living room which has a log-burner on a stone plinth in its centre as a focal point, and a five piece suite in the classy bathroom. Although consistently graded 4 Star, all cottages in 2003 had new kitchens fitted with gloss work-tops, halogen cookers and gorgeous granite stone sinks. The bathroom has also been up-graded. The cottages have exposed beams and stone-work. They are 300 yards up our private drive and form part of a courtyard facing outwards over the surrounding fields and dales to give excellent views and some degree of privacy. In front of the cottages is a large grassed and garden area. There is ample area for off-road parking. Each cottage have seven(!) highly organised, and personalised information folders. Guests have heaped praise on this source of information which ensure that even those who have stayed with us numerous times still find plenty new to do. Housekeeping and attention to detail is regarded by the owners, who strive to encourage return visits, as being of paramount importance There are two wild flowers meadows on our land, one of which borders a nature reserve leading after just over a mile to the Rive Dove (at Wolfscote Dale). The nearest pub is 700 yards away. Numerous footpaths surround the land on which the cottages stand, offering unrivalled walking in the best part of the White Peak. The prestigious Marina de la Duquesa complex is in a quiet area on the seafront yet it is only a minute from the marina and port area of Puerto de la Duquesa. There you will find numerous shops and bars. There are some great restaurants with cuisine from France, Italy, Thailand, China, India, Scandinavia, Great Britain and Ireland as well as Spain. Theres a shop to rent DVDs, fishing gear and bikes. It is about one hour's drive from Malaga airport and 30 minutes from Gibraltar. The marina has more than 300 berths. There are no high rise hotels here to spoil the view. The blue flag beach stretches as far as Sabanillas and on to Estepona. On the other side, it winds around the coast to Sotogrande. The waterfront is closed to traffic making it very safe for children. In the summer there is a street market. There is a Sunday market at Sabanillas. La Duquesa is well situated on the road network, 10km south west of Estepona on the N340 highway. There are plenty of beautiful places to visit in Andalucia. Unfortunately, nothing now remains of the stronghold except some ditches to the east of the village and a street named Branodunum. This is an excellent area for nature lovers and bird watchers with reserves at nearby Titchwell, Holme, Scolt Head Island and Snettisham. Other attractions include the golf course, sailing from Brancaster Staithe, Stately homes such as Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall and Sandringham plus the Victorian seaside town of Hunstanton. There are many good restaurants and pubs in the vicinity.

The surrounding slopes are covered with an indigenous forest of pines and oaks. One can also embark on day trips by car to the Ebro River and the Delta del Ebro Natural Park, Port Aventura the largest adventure park in Europe, the coast towns Cambrils, Salou, L'hospitalet de L'infant and Taragona, once the Roman capital of Spain, and many more sites. It is advisable to spend at least two or three days here exploring the nearby nature attractions, so as to gain the full benefit of the house.
