Full Description of Holiday Rental Property: Sunflower Cottage is a spacious, comfortably furnished and very well equipped country cottage, ideal for a relaxing and interesting holiday in the beautiful Vendéen countryside. Gas, electricity and water is included in the price. Also included is bed linen, with beds made up prior to your arrival. The cottage is cleaned by our caretakers in-between lets. There are no extras to pay for.
The front garden has an old well and stone seat, wooden pincic table/chairs, sun umbrella.
Spacious fully tiled entrance hall leading to large oak beamed sitting room with three seater sofa, two seater sofa, armchair and matching leg-rest, display cabinets, lamps and rugs etc. Two windows to the front of the cottage. Satellite TV/DVD player. Range of DVD's. Fireplace/woodburner. Plenty of books and games, eg.Chess, Scrabble etc.
Bright and sunny country kitchen/diner with high vaulted ceiling with beams and skylight windows. The kitchen door opens onto the terrace and garden. Fridge, freezer, microwave, oven, electric kettle, toaster, large range of cooking/serving equipment.
The dining table seats up to eight people. Adjacent utility area with dishwasher, iron/ ironing board, cleaning equipment etc. Spacious ground floor bathroom with bath/shower over. The washing machine is in the bathroom.
1st Floor. Polished wooden staircase leads to first floor landing. Spacious main bedroom with pine furniture, comfortable rugs, lamps etc. Upholstered guest bed for small child. Window to the front with views over the surrounding countryside. 2nd bedroom sleeps up to 3 people. Single bed, bunk beds, chest of drawers etc. 1st floor shower room has a fully tiled shower, wash hand basin and toilet.
Trees and shrubs surround the spacious country garden, which it is shared with Kingfisher Cottage. Both have their own private patio area.
Garden table and chairs, sun umbrellas and sun loungers are provided, also a BBQ. The cottage has a terrace and outside light for the evening.
Sunflower Cottage is set in a rural farming hamlet in the beautiful and sunny Southern Vendée Region of France, not far from the towns of Fontenay-le-Comte and La Roche sur Yon.
The Vendée lies between the Côte d'Argent and Brittany but with a character all of its own. The cottages are about an hour from the magnificent Atlantic beaches, and inland, surrounding the cottages, the quiet countryside remains unspoilt. There are fields of sunflowers in the summer, small streams and rivers to explore and many historic and ancient towns and villages, often with morning markets. There are several Chateaux in the area, as well as vineyards open for wine-tasting or you can hire a punt and explore the Marais Poitevin. The magnificent theme park of Puy du Fou is close by.
Although we do not have a swimming pool at the cottages, less than 15 minutes drive away is a fabulous heated open-air swimming pool available for the public to enjoy.
It has a water chute, toddlers pool, sunloungers, terraces for sunbathing and large grassy areas for picnics. It is very reasonable priced, with a large free carpark.
Just a couple of minutes walk through the hamlet is a beautiful chateau, still owned and lived in by the descendents of the original family. Past the chateau there are open fields, woods and streams, making the area perfect for country walks and bird-watching.
Nearest boulangerie is in Bazoges-en-Pareds (2 kms), an historical and interesting village with a Donjon Medieval Tower and gardens open to the public. There is also a bar and exceptional restaurant. For shopping the town of Chantonnay provides a range of shops for all tastes. There is a weekly market and a Centre Commercial with a Hyper U, Petol Station, Ma Campagne, Sports World etc.
Just north of the cottages, is a beautiful leisure lake, Lac de Rochereau, for boating, canoeing, picnics, fishing, walks and swimming in summer. The lake has a sandy beach and a large grassed area with picnic tables. Free parking. It is possible to hire canoes/kayaks in the summer. Outdoor swimming pool in the nearby village of Mouilleron-en-Pareds, which also has several bistros, bank, boulangerie, bars, etc. The Forest of Mervent has a zoo and very popular theme park, as well as a beautiful lake, restaurants, bike trails and walks.

How to get here: Sunflower Cottage is approximately 7 hours drive from the short Channel crossing ports of Calais/Boulogne, and 3/4 hours from Caen/St Malo etc. It is also possible to fly from the UK to La Rochelle or Poitiers airport (approximately 1 hours flight time) and hire a car.
