Holiday Cottage Full Description |
Full Description of Holiday Rental Property: You will find Les Jasmins amid the vineyards of a small domaine called Fournery, thirty minutes from Carcassonne and its airport. The cottage has been, in its past, a farm building, a temporary home for grape pickers during the vendage and a wine store. It has now been renovated to a high standard.
Accommodation:
The open plan ground floor has a living area, dining area and well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine and full size electric oven and gas hob. There are two bedrooms, one with double bed, the other with twin beds. The bathroom has a w.c., washbasin and bath with integral shower. There is also the ‘loo with a view’ with a w.c. and washbasin. We have recently installed a wood burning stove in the living room, making it an even cosier retreat in winter months and the stereo cd/radio/cassette might just help you create that relaxed atmosphere.
Outside, the small garden to the front of the house has car parking space and a terrace with table and chairs. The terrace at the back has spectacular views over the vines – the perfect place to enjoy rural tranquility and a glass of local wine. We offer you a couple of bottles of our local Domaine de Fournery wine on arrival to help your holiday get off to a good start.
Round and About:
The region offers a variety of beautiful scenery for driving, walking or cycling. The Pyrenees and the Mediterranean beaches are within easy reach while a visit to Spain and the Costa Brava or a duty free shopping trip to Andorra offer alternatives for a day out.
Ten minutes away from Fournery is the old market town of Limoux, home of Blanquette, the local sparkling wine. The town keeps up many of its local traditions which take place at intervals throughout the year including its carnival, which is celebrated most week-ends from January to March. There is a busy market every Friday and many other opportunities to buy local produce during the summer season. Antique hunters might enjoy the ‘brocante’ market held on the first Sunday of every month or a search among the many antique/second hand shops in the area.
The whole area is steeped in medieval history, with abbeys and castles dotted all around, the most famous perhaps being the impressive castle town of Carcassonne, the background for numerous films, ‘Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves’ among them and now the setting for the bestselling book 'Labyrinth'.
The Canal du Midi makes its way gently through the region on its way to the coast - why not take a walk or go for a bicycle ride along its shady paths with an unhurried lunch stop along the way?
An autumn visit gives you the opportunity to witness the grape harvest at first hand, while at the same time enjoying the fruits of previous years.
A relaxing winter break could include a day trip to a ski resort in the Pyrenees to actually ski or just enjoy the snow from the comfort of a cosy restaurant.
A visit in the springtime is particularly attractive to nature lovers who want to explore the countryside and feast upon the profusion of wild orchids and other flowers which bloom in the local countryside.
NB Please note that we ask smokers to smoke outside the house. Due to the small mezzanine area in bedroom two the house is not suitable for young children.
