Full Description of Holiday Rental Property: Sandboys Belle-Dune is a well-equipped modern house situated beside a famous golf course in a popular family seaside resort. Sleeps 4/6
Fort Mahon is a family seaside resort, with fabulous beaches and endless dunes, on the famous Cote d'Opale, just over 1 hour from Calais. This newly built house, in a quiet development on the edge of the famous Belle Dune golf course, is extremely well equipped and superbly furnished in a contemporary style. Families with children, whether golfers or not, will love the beach, the AquaClub, an indoor complex with waves, slides and sub-tropical atmosphere, and all the other activities available in and around this family oriented seaside resort. The beach, kite flying, sand-yachting, catamaran sailing, kayaking, bike-hire, mini-golf, climbing wall, riding stables, tennis, restaurants & cafes are all within walking distance.
Accommodation
Ground Floor: Open-plan lounge/diner with comfortable seating, convertible settee (double), TV, dining table and chairs. galley kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. Bathroom with bath & shower facilities, separate WC.
First Floor: 2 twin bedrooms
Exterior: Terrace with outdoor dining table, lockable storage/laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer, private parking space.
The house is insulated to top modern standards and is equipped with electric radiators capable of maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures, whatever the weather outdoors.
Local Facilities: Dozens of restaurants, bars & shops within 800 metres, including boulangeries, newspaper shops & the Belle Dune Golf Clubhouse.
The beach with sand-yachting, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, kite-flying etc. is within walking distance, as is the Aquaclub pool with waves and slides. Also close by and within walking distance are an equestrian centre, climbing wall, mini-golf and other holiday recreation and sports facilities.
There are a number of officially marked walking and cycling routes varying from easy to physically demanding in the region.
Trout fishing is available at a number of nearby lakes, where visitors can enjoy fine facilities and excellent catches. (No licence required)
Golf: This area is a golfer's heaven with some of Europe's finest courses open to visitors at very reasonable rates. The famous Belle-Dune course is almost literally on the doorstep. This has been recently ranked among France's best 10 courses. Just a few miles away is the friendly club at Nampont St. Martin where you will find two excellent 18 hole courses. Le Touquet (25 miles) boasts two of France's finest 18 hole courses and a 9 hole course for beginners or the less energetic. There are at least 4 more excellent courses within an hour's drive, including the Scottish style links course at Wimereux, the physically daunting Golf d'Abbeville, and two more of France's best at Hardelot, between Le Touquet and Boulogne.
Entertainment: The Bagatelle Theme park, a very special day out for children, is only 10 miles distant. For adults, the night clubs and casinos at Berck (10 miles) or at Le Touquet (25 miles) are likely to prove equally entertaining.
Ornithology: Fort Mahon is on the edge of the Marquenterre Ornithological Nature Park, a vast area around the estuary of the Somme where a huge variety of indigent and migratory birds can be watched.
Shopping: Le Touquet for smart boutiques and a spectacular market; Boulogne and Calais for hypermarkets and drinks; Montreuil or St Omer for antiques, art and furniture galleries; all are within a hour or so drive.
Sightseeing: The region is packed with history, including battle sites ancient and modern (Crecy, Agincourt, The Somme, Ypres, Passchendale) and there are many excellent museums.
In summer the cathedral at Amiens (50 miles) is spectacularly illuminated in free show every evening. Watch from the terrace of a local cafe.
The nearby fishing town of St Valery has a fascinating old quarter within its ancient walls. Joan of Arc was held prisoner here for a time by the English, and William the Conqueror is said to have sailed from here to land at Hastings.
The pretty old town of Montreuil where Victor Hugo was inspired to write "Les Miserables" (and set part of the story there) puts on an excellent and entertaining Son & Lumiere show (you don't have to understand French) every summer evening in the grounds of the old chateau.
