Full Description of Holiday Rental Property: At the edge of a lovely tranquil, typically French village in the south Minervois right alongside the spectacular Canal du Midi and only 15 minutes away from the famous walled medieval city of Carcassonne. Both the Canal and the City are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
You have the choice of 2 fully equipped, recently renovated gîtes each sleeping 4 + cot, which can prove to be an ideal base to explore the many attractions in and around the area. If you only want to have a leisurely stroll, cycle along the canal towpath or take time to explore further a field and visit the many Cathar Churches and fabulous vineyards for a spot of wine tasting which the Languedoc is famous for. The Mediterranean beaches are less than 1 hour drive away and Spain can be reached in less than 2 hours.
Canal View Cottage has the advantage of fabulous views overlooking the Canal du Midi and across the vineyards to the “Montagne Noire” in the distance. You can sit on the patio area watching the boats navigate their way up and down the lock on the canal and watch the French people go about their everyday life.
The gîtes are in the grounds of the very friendly British owners who will respect your privacy.
Upstairs, the gîte offers a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. Freshly laundered Towels and Bedding are provided. There is a shower and washbasin. (Hairdryer provided) Downstairs there is everything you need for a relaxing holiday away from home. Open plan area downstairs includes a sitting room area with TV, Radio/CD player. Dining table and chairs with a kitchenette offering all facilities. A full-sized 4 ring cooker with oven and grill and a large fridge with the benefit of a freezer above. All crockery, cutlery and tea towels are provided as well as a microwave/ dishwasher/ electric toaster & kettle. A Cool-box is provided for excursions to help keep drinks cool. There is a WC and a separate utility room with a washing machine and sink and ample outside washing line for drying provided.
The Heated Swimming Pool (open between mid April to mid October) offers 10m x 5 metres (approx. 33ft x 16ft) with Roman Steps for easy access and sitting on the steps with your feet in the water to keep cool. There are 2 metres of tiled surround and decking with sun-loungers overlooking the views and the garden. The pool is in a raised area of the garden offering fantastic views over towards the hills. Both gîtes share the heated pool which is set in approx 2 acres of garden. Private off road parking provided. We have a selection of bicycles available for use free of charge. (Helmets and bicycle locks provided)
Location
The village of Marseillette is midway between Carcassonne and Olanzac in the southern Minervois region. It sits between the Canal du Midi and the river Aude.
Trebes close by, offers all the necessary facilities such as; Grocer, petrol, supermarkets, chemist, newsagent banks etc. All major stores and supermarkets are generally found in Carcassonne.
Airports
Several airports are in close proximity. Ryanair serve Carcassonne 20 mins and Perpignan 1 hour away with regular inexpensive flights. Toulouse and Montpelier airports are also approx 1 hour drive away. With so many discount airlines operating in the area, then Nimes, Gerona and Barcelona are also possible options if hiring a car. Inexpensive car hire direct from all the local airports can take the strain from driving down and help you reach the sunshine quicker.
Trains
Nearest train station is in Carcassonne. Motorail runs to Toulouse & Narbonne
Ferries
From Calais it’s approximately a 10 hour drive via the Auto-routes plus stops. (please remember tolls).
Climate
Rain in the summer is very rare and tends to result from occasional storm activity which is localised. If you’re unfortunate enough to experience rain, then it tends to be a large burst in a very short space of time.
Attractions and Places of Interest
The gîtes are ideally situated to visit the many attractions. Whether you want to walk along the walls of the medieval city (La Cité) steeped in history or to dip your toes in the sea at the sun drenched beaches of the Mediterranean.
The region is surrounded by vineyards and stunning countryside. You would never be short of places to visit or walk.
Carcassonne. The medieval walled city dates back to the 6th Century. It has 52 towers and 2 miles of ramparts and is still inhabited to this day. The setting for several films (including Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves).
The Montagne Noire in the north is surrounded by stunningly beautiful scenery with lovely mountain villages. Beautiful walking or leisurely drives.
Visit the local markets: Wednesday in Lezignan, Sunday in Narbonne and Saturday in Carcassonne. The Saturday market in Revel is a must to see the authentic French way of life and buy local produce.
Boat hire on the Canal du Midi from Trebes less than 10 minutes away with plenty of walks along the towpath. This is ideal for cycling.

Several Cathar Churches near by dating back over 800 years.
Ski. The Pyrenees and Andorra are only just over an hours drive away
Wine trails
African Animal Reserve within ½ hours drive at Sigean.

For those Golf enthusiasts, there is an 18 hole course which accepts visitors in Carcassonne. Half sets of clubs can be rented.
Mountains, rolling hills, vineyards, cathedrals, churches, lakes, gorges, rivers, rafting, and sailing what ever your interests will all be catered for close by.
France is renowned for its food and drink. There are certainly no shortages of places to eat and drink to suit all tastes and pockets close by. More local information is available on site.
Pricing & Letting Arrangements
All prices are per gîte, per week, regardless of occupancy numbers.
Weekend bookings are available, please request further information from the owners. Open 365 days of the year.
Linen and towels are included in the price.
N.B. Please bring your own beach /pool towels. There is a modern Travel Cot available.
Once availability has been confirmed a provisional booking will be made and a booking form sent or e-mailed to you for completion along with a Terms & Condition form. In order to secure your booking these will need to be returned with a 25% deposit within 7 days.

How to get there.
If driving down, then a useful web site is www.mappy.com where you can plan your route from home and include any stops. You can even use this to plan the journey from the airport. This will show the Autoroute signs as you see them and are easier to follow. They also tell you when to expect the toll booths and the price. Please note that they may not be exact prices due to increases, but they will only be a few cents out and give you an idea. The fastest, least expensive and one of the more attractive auto routes down to Marseillette is by skirting Paris, towards Orleans and on towards Limoges down to Toulouse. The above web site should provide that for you.
